Our Model Bricklaying Apprentice
Tuesday (31st May 2022) saw volunteers from ARJ, settle, calfordseaden and Gravenhurst School brave the late spring weather and join forces to deliver a revitalised outdoor theatre and school garden.
With our site at Orchard Close situated adjacent Gravenhurst School, we were approached in February by their PTA to see if we were willing to help with the refurbishment of their outdoor theatre & planting area. Without hesitation it was agreed that two days of the school’s half term would be put aside – with Contract Manager Olly Crotch organising a very willing team of volunteers, including the school’s business manager Alison Day.
Day one saw the site team remove the tired, existing decking base, set aside the electrics and prepare the ground ready for the new stage. Day two – our helpers installed the new concrete stage, reinstated the electrics, de-weeded the seating area and installed 2 tonnes of play bark. The school garden area was pruned, de-weeded, tidied up and 3 tonnes of shingle delivered to give the space a much needed makeover.
It may have been a little cold and wet, but the end results were definitely worth it. Speaking on behalf of the school, Alison said “We can’t thank you enough for what you have done for us. It was incredibly generous of you and we’d love to invite you all back to see our first production on our fantastic new stage!”
